Local businesses are being warned not to fall for a European scam that could cost them more than £3000.
This scam centres on an official-looking letter from a German company relating to the 'Publication of companies and VAT Registration Numbers in the UK Corporate Portal 2013'.

Congratulations to
Colston Bassett Dairy which is celebrating its 100th year in business this year. The dairy was set up as a farmers' co-operative and remains so to this day. HRH The Princess Royal visited the factory this month as part of the celebrations.
County Show success

Hundreds of people stopped by to visit Rushcliffe businesses at the Notts County Show at Newark Showground on 11 and 12 May. The Show attracted 56,000 visitors and 625 trade stands. Rushcliffe Business Partnership helped bring together 11 local businesses in a marquee including Vantage Design & Marketing, Utility Warehouse, Jamieson Christie Wealth Management, Meryn Leather, Learning Through Music, Black Star Coffee, Make Sense Financial Solutions, Raspberry Blonde Shoe Party, Wiseman Designs, Hartland Pies and Williams Architects.
Ashes advertising opportunity

Howzat! Council marketing chiefs are hoping local businesses will be bowled over by online advertising opportunities this summer which link in with the Ashes Test at Trent Bridge.
Nottinghamshire County Council is putting together some dedicated web pages to advertise business and economic opportunities for the county that will also be promoted on the new digital scoreboard at the Trent Bridge cricket ground. The messages will be seen by audiences at county matches plus the 17,000 daily spectators at the international cricket match against Australia in July.

The 'UK Peace Index' announced today revealed the areas of Britain with the highest and lowest levels of violent crime. This inaugural study of 343 areas found there has been a 'substantial and sustained' fall in violent crime over the last decade.
Broadland in Norfolk was announced as the most peaceful council area in Britain - with just eight incidents of armed violence in 2012. Lewisham, south London, meanwhile, was declared the least peaceful area in the UK.
Rushcliffe was ranked 16th and was among the most peaceful place in the East Midlands along with North Kesteven, Rutland and West Lindsey.

More than 100 people attended the Rushcliffe Business Partnership and Rushcliffe Borough Council launch of The Point business premises in West Bridgford today. The event marked the purchase of the commercial offices by the council and coincided with the Partnership's regular monthly meeting. After a business breakfast and informal networking, Cllr Neil Clarke, Leader of the Council, welcomed attendees and gave a short speech outlining the investment decision behind the council's acquisition of The Point. Two leaders from resident businesses inside The Point then explained to the audience the benefits of a tenancy within The Point. Our RBP networking meeting returns to its usual venue, Escabeche in West Bridgford, next month (May).

The ECO Stars Fleet Recognition Scheme can make a big impact on your business – it’s free to join and as a member you’ll receive over £1,000 of free expert advice to help get your fleet running as efficiently as possible.
The scheme is open to fleet operators of all sizes across Nottingham and means that your organisation will be supported with tailor made guidance to improve the efficiency of your fleet. A typical HGV operator, for example, could expect to reduce their fuel consumption by at least 5% in the first year.

The Friary charity in West Bridgford is appealing to local businesses for use of a warehouse in Rushcliffe to house their new Rushcliffe Furniture Scheme. The organisation is looking for a unit of approximately 2,000 square feet to ensure suitable stock levels.
Sam Crawford from The Friary said: "The scheme will serve vulnerable people in the Rushcliffe area and mitigate for some of the cuts to support services."

Many businesses are looking for new audiences and innovative places to promote their products. Agricultural shows have a solid background of being a launch pad for non-agricultural business, with household names such as Lakeland and Joules having started by retailing at shows.
The Rushcliffe Business Partnership is considering booking an 'umbrella' stand for businesses in Rushcliffe to promote themselves at the high profile Nottinghamshire County Show on 11 – 12 May 2013. The Show had an attendance of over 50,000 people in 2012 with wide media coverage and the Rushcliffe stand would provide a high profile area for Rushcliffe based businesses to exhibit and sell.

Many British companies recognise Germany as the key international marketplace on the doorstep, so as part of a series of £99 Export Insight Visits, UKTI will be taking a group of companies to Karlsruhe from
12 - 14 March 2013. This visit provides a unique opportunity to undertake a day's language and culture training in country, as well as giving delegates the opportunity to meet and network with like-minded German businesses.
The full programme also incorporates the chance to meet with the local Chamber of Commerce and Cyberforum as well as the UKTI trade team based in Munich who will explain what export opportunities exist in the market and the support and services they can offer to UK businesses.

The Renewable Energy Exchange (REX) is staging a networking event on Thursday 7 February in Nottinghamshire to help local authorities and businesses assess how they can invest in environmental energy initiatives.
The event, being held at Southwell Racecourse, has places available for delegates interested in renewable energy, renewable heat and energy efficiency. There are various workshops and opportunities to meet businesses representing a range of different renewable technologies and energy efficiency projects.

Gold Medal Business event - a great success

Many thanks to all our presenters, stallholders, organisers and delegates at this year's Rushcliffe Business Partnership 'Business Showcase', held at Trent Bridge cricket ground.
The 'Gold Medal Business' event on November 14 attracted more than 100 delegates to hear from a diverse line-up of speakers and enjoy the opportunity to network with other local business people.
Following a welcome from Cllr Neil Clarke, Leader of Rushcliffe Borough Council, Jonathan Ellis from the Bloodhound Project told delegates how they were advancing science and inspiring minds through a rocket-fuelled car which is set to shatter the land speed record in 2014.
Susan Hallam of Hallam Internet Ltd gave some top tips on how the audience could tune up their internet toolbox. Lisa Pursehouse, chief executive of Nottinghamshire County Cricket Club, provided insights into how the club won the rights to host the Ashes and explained about their commitment to a range of charity activities.
David Drury of South Nottingham College encouraged delegates to consider taking on apprentices in their businesses while John Collins, RBP Chair, spoke of the new opportunities available for business coaching.
As well as the presentations, the event had a busy exhibition area, meet the buyer stand and networking over lunch.
