School Improvement Project

Notts businesses to play their part in £750m school improvement project

Nottinghamshire businesses are being encouraged to play a part in helping to transform secondary schools across the county as part of a £750m programme.

Nottinghamshire County Council is looking for medium to large sized businesses specialising in design, construction, facilities management or ICT services for a partnership to deliver the county’s Building Schools for the Future (BSF) programme.

The Council has organised an open day on Wednesday 21 April 2010 at County Hall, West Bridgford, to give potential bidders more information about the project.

The event will include a range of presentations from keynote speakers covering all aspects of the programme and offer prospective bidders an opportunity to meet key stakeholders, councillors, headteachers and pupils participating in the first wave of the project.

The Council is particularly keen to hear from businesses interested in joining a consortium in the Newark and Sherwood and Mansfield areas, as the first wave of funding worth £150m is being spent on the following schools:

Building Schools for the Future (BSF) is a long term programme of investment and change that will result in every secondary school in England being rebuilt, remodelled or upgraded. It will transform the life chances of children and young people of Nottinghamshire through raising standards in schools and promoting the integration of services.

Notes to Editors

BSF is not just a building programme. It provides Nottinghamshire with the opportunity to transform the way secondary schools function, developing buildings for the 21st century with teaching and learning to match. The Nottinghamshire BSF programme is about more than just creating new school buildings; it’s about working collectively to transform the way children learn, and the way the wider community support this and engage in their own continuing education.

The BSF programme offers enormous potential for the whole of the county. It is about creating ‘learning communities’ by transforming schools into centres for integrated and co-located services which help to regenerate local communities.

The aim of the programme is to work together to provide integrated services for all children and young people in Nottinghamshire to improve their life chances and to help them to maximise their potential.
